Not only do we have our good friend Clint Aaron from 262 Cigars hosting the NATIONAL RELEASE PARTY for his new cigar line, The Revere, we’ve got a sneak peek of the newest/only bourbon/cigar bar in the area.

The Revere is a Nicaraguan puro. The cigar features a wrapper from the Jalapa Valley, a double binder of both Jalapa and Estelí tobaccos, and a rare combination of Estelí, Condega and Jalapa seco, viso, and ligero for the filler. Hit your Kentucky Derby Week trifecta at Riverside Cigars

Well, it’s been almost a year since we opened, and in celebration, we’re giving you three events in three days.  First Tuesday, May 1st, Nish Patel from Rocky Patel Cigars will be here, with great specials, a free torch lighter with box purchases, and much more.

The fun continues on Wednesday with Sean Williams from Primer Mundo Cigars.  Primer Mundo is a premier boutique company, and they make fantastic cigars that most of us have never had the opportunity to try.  Combine that fact with the free cigars and T-shirts that Sean is throwing in with purchases, and you have yourself a winner!

We’re not done yet.  Thursday you’ll witness the national release of highly anticipated Intemperance cigar line from Skip Martin and the guys at RoMa Craft Tobac.  We’re excited to be chosen as the shop that gets to release this cigar, and we are sure it’s going to be a huge hit.

OK, OK, it comes to Riverside Cigar Shop in Jeffersonville, but close, right?

Here we go again. Another month, another blow-out event. Join us this month, Thursday, December 15th, for our latest version of the “Cigar Event of the Month”. This time we’re featuring Alec Bradley, and more specifically, their new cigar, the Black Market. Composed of a Jalapa Valley Nicaraguan wrapper, an Ecuadorian grown Sumatra seed binder, and a mix of Honduran and Panamanian (yes, Panamanian) tobaccos for the filler. Notes of coffee and cocoa (maybe a little bitter chocolate) on the front end. The body (and flavor) ramps up as you get further into the cigar. A sweet, soft spice, and a dark fruit hint towards the back end of this cigar really caps it off for me. Overall, a medium (maybe medium +?) cigar for me, complex, tons of flavor, great construction, definitely a “must try” for a new release.

You’re in luck, too, because the specials for these are going to be insane. Buy a box and get 8 FREE ALEC BRADLEY CIGARS! Actually, get 8 free cigars, and Alec Bradley gear (hat, t-shirt, whatever the warehouse sends us….), and raffle entries. Well, we did it.  We begged, we pleaded, we cried, we cajoled, and at the end of the day, we got us a Drew Estates Undercrown Release Party.

A line extension of the world famous Liga Privada blend, this is going to be huge.

A little information on the origin, and the blend of the cigar:

Undercrown is a liga blended on our factory floor by the best of our Liga Privada torcedores for themselves due to our request that they smoke less of the cigars they were crafting. Incorporating many of the same rare tobaccos, but of different vintages and primings, the cigar they created was no mere replacement. Earthy, creamy, spicy with a delicious black tobacco sweet finish, Undercrown is an exceptional smoking experience of uncompromising quality and flavor that deserves to be smoked by all.

If you can’t tell, we’re a little excited about this cigar.  Mata Fina is one of my favorite tobacco leaves, it imparts a sweetness to the smoke that is unusual, and very nice.

Since our next event is rapidly approaching, I thought I’d combine an event post with a review of one of the cigars that will be featured at the event.  For those of you that haven’t heard, we’re hosting Torano Cigars in store on October 8th, 2011.  Not only are we hosting Torano Cigars, we are also hosting Felipe Sosa, who blended the 91 rated Master cigar.  A little biographical information on Felipe:

“Felipe was born in Havana,Cuba. He got his start rolling at the Partagas Factory. He has over 29 years of experience in the cigar industry. He is the face and blender behind the ’91′ rated (Cigar Aficionado) & ’98′ 5 Stars rated MASTER by Carlos Torano.”

On to the review.  When this cigar first came out, I went through a box in about 2 weeks, so it’s safe to say I think they’re pretty doggone good.

This cigar presents very well, it’s obviously fully filled, firm, and well rolled.  Lights easily and the first thing that I notice is the presence of a soft spice.  It’s not black pepper, not harsh, reminiscent of cinnamon, maybe, kind of hard to identify, but  pleasant nonetheless.

Progressing through the cigar, I’m noticing a couple things.  One, the construction is excellent. Ash holds on for an inch, inch and 1/2, and the burn line is thin, and never wavers.  All signs of stellar construction.  Secondly, the flavors are very consistent, as is the body/strength of the cigar, which stays dead at medium in my opinion.  So much  so, that if I had to define a “medium bodied” cigar for someone, I’d say “Like a Torano Master, you know?”

Finishing up an hour and 20 minutes of burn time with a few closing thoughts.  This is not a cigar that does back flips for you.  It doesn’t change 12 times throughout, and it doesn’t blow you away with funky flavor, nor does it hit you in the face with a bunch of strength.  What it does do is provide a great smoking experience, consistent quality, great medium body, and an interesting soft spice (maybe cedar?) throughout.  Finishing this cigar reminds me why I smoked a box of them when they first came out.  This is truly an almost perfect medium bodied cigar, and it’s perfect for sitting around talking with a group of friends.  You don’t have pay attention to it, never have to relight, and you’ll still get a great experience.

So come meet Miguel Schoedel and Felipe Sosa, take home some fresh-rolled cigars from Felipe, and enjoy great specials, better friends, and the best cigar shop in the area.
